Fit For Anything Newsletter December 2020

It has been a strange year, perhaps one we would rather forget, and everyone has faced unprecedented pressure, challenges and disruptions. The new year brings uncertainty I know, as the pandemic is taking its course, but you can still face it with a positive attitude to plan your fitness goals.

The festive season poses challenges to us all when it comes to health and dedication, but there are always ways to stay healthy during Christmas, and also have fun and enjoy yourself. Some top tips for the festive season are as follows:

Take it easy on the alcohol

We all know alcohol in excess is bad for you, but no one’s going to tell you off for having a few drinks. Just remember to keep everything in moderation. Excessive drinking tends to go hand in hand with unhealthy weight gain, so take it easy – you’ll still be able to have fun.

Don’t eat something you usually avoid

The excess food around the holiday season can be tempting, but if you know that you respond badly to dairy products, or that eating too much chocolate doesn't do you any favours, then try to avoid them. Always keep yourself in mind, even when you’re feeling the festive pressure!

Make sure that you still exercise

It becomes even more difficult to stick to a schedule when there are so many reasons to make excuses for not training. And there’s nothing wrong with easing up on the intensity. You’ve earned it. But remember that just a little exercise still goes a long way. Suggest you keep some structure and a routine that works for you. Find a way to sneak in a few sessions throughout the week, and you will feel better for it!

I recently shared a flashback to almost 30 years ago to my days during Special Forces training in the Netherlands as a little motivation for getting through these challenging times we find ourselves in. This training sees only 8% of starting recruits finish and receive their green beret. There are times when you feel you have used up all reserves, it’s then time to find the desire, power, mind-set, belief and determination within you to see things through and to continue to function well enough to finish what you’ve started. Give it your all but sensibly. Adapt, adjust, bounce back and find a reserve source of energy when one feels ultimate limits of physical and mental capacities have been completely depleted. Keep going, you’ll get through tough times, you will see it through, you’ll persevere and get there!

Why not set one of these as your next target?

Some events coming up during the next few months (fingers crossed):
