Hello,
We were very pleased with the response from last month in regards to our newsletter launch, thank you for your feedback! We've listened and got you a packed June Newsletter.
May was a very busy month for me, as well as personal training I have taken part in a couple of OCR events which have been hard work but fun. For the Spartan Race we had a Fit For Anything team participate. It was a great way to bring people together and achieve something big. Next time I'd love a bigger group so please get in touch if this is something you'd like to be a part of.
Top Tips for Tackling an OCR Race
Obstacle races were once upon a time something children did for fun and soldiers did for training. These days obstacle course racing (OCR) is a popular and involved fitness event which takes guts, training and a little bit of OCR know-how if you want to get to the end intact! (read more)
Taking part in sporting events safely in the summer
The summer is a popular time for outdoor sporting events however there are seasonal quirks that you must be aware of to ensure that your summer sporting is as safe as it is fun. (read more)
Each month we aim to celebrate the success of our clients and showcase their achievements. This month I'd like to introduce you to Caroline who made it through to the finish line at The London Marathon 2016.
I competed this year in the London Marathon 2016
I have watched this for years and years on TV and always thought what an achievement and how I would love to be part of it. I am also part of a running group of friends which we call ourselves The Most Exclusive Running Club in the World. A mix of people but we generally meet on a Sunday and run anything from 5K to 12k. All different abilities. Those that just run and run and those that it can be a struggle with. Lots of fun with the opportunity to run and chat and catch up on weekly gossip. We set ourselves goals which started with 10k runs and then half marathons. One of the younger members had run a marathon - so I decided in my 53rd year why not me? I decided simply because I can I would give it a go.
Actually two great highlights - one of them in training when on the first day of 17 week training schedule while having the opportunity to run along the beach in Barbados I finished off at a hotel on the beach that I had run passed. I went in with my husband and one of our friends and asked for a glass of water and some fruit. My husband jumped up and ran across the pool area and brought back with him a gentleman called Brendon. Once talking to him I recognised the voice - it was Brendon Foster! I felt having met him on the first day of my training that I was destined to run the marathon.
The other highlight to me was the running over Tower Bridge - it was really the only time I had a lump in my throat. Just running through London and taking everything onboard was truly incredible.
I can only say it wasn't anywhere as hard as I thought. It was only really at Mile 21 I thought this is getting difficult. Mile 24 it was hurting but I knew it was very possible. The crowds just pull you all the way round the course.
I felt over the moon - never in my wildest dreams did I think I would wear a London Marathon Medal around my neck. Finishing the race though was a little disappointing though - the feeling inside is you just want to burst with excitement and throw your arms around your loved ones and shout I did it. Unfortunately, it is a long walk before you are reunited with them.
Since running the marathon I have recommended it time and time again. The London marathon is a must for anyone who has thought maybe it might be possible. Well it is - the hardest bit is the training. Early mornings in the dark, late nights in the dark after work, swimming at the local pool, gym sessions - these are the hardest bits. The Marathon is the easy bit. Would I do it again - 100% yes - I never thought I would say that but yes I would love to do another one. New York has been mentioned !
Massive thanks to Roel who took me on quite late - loved my sessions with him and prepared me both mentally and physically. Couldn't have done it without him.
Congratulations Caroline! We are super proud of you.
I hope you enjoyed this newsletter and have a good rest of the month.
That's it from me for now,
Roel
