March 2018

After the snow and the repercussions from the Beast from the East, we are starting to see some warmer weather and with that a great excuse to reap the benefits of exercising outside. This doesn't need to be on the same end of the scale as marathon training but simply taking the opportunity to walk more to your destination and enjoy the best that nature has to offer as spring (hopefully) kicks in. This month, continuing the theme of walking Fit For Anything has taken a look at one of the latest phenomena in total body fitness - Nordic walking and how you can get started. If this is a "step" too far then increasing your daily steps is a way to increase your cardiovascular fitness too.

The Nuts Challenge is run over a 7k obstacle course, with multiple laps available to those who want to increase their challenge to 14k, 21k or 28k.

Based at Dorking all year round with over 60 obstacles including, several cargo net climbs, fences, gates, walls, pole slide, rope swing, barbed wire crawl, log balance, tyre wall, jump through tyres, rope wall, swamps, water slide and lots of tunnels. Let us know if you are interested to have a go at this course as with enough interest Fit For Anything will organise a casual group (half day) session.

Roel took part in order to aim to qualify for the O.C.R. World Championships which are going to be held at Nuclear Races grounds during autumn this year. It was a challenging event filled with determination and drama right to the end. Find out how Roel faced the twists and turns and overcame more than just the obstacles in his full account here.

SPOILER ALERT: Roel qualified 2nd in his age category and will be taking part in the World Championships in October.

H2O returns after Easter.

With the weather improving FFA is aiming to resume sessions at Merchant Taylors' School with the popular H20 (How to Obstacle-run) and how to improve running performance training from 21st April. For more information contact Roel for details.

Well done to Anish who took on the Reading Half Marathon on the 18th March. Training for any marathon is a fantastic goal and requires a commitment to fitness and strength training as well as optimum nutrition. For anyone interested in some top tips for Marathon training and tips on Marathon day it self there is some great information on the FFA blog pages.

What's on?
The big date in many runner's diaries is the London Marathon which is held on the 22nd April. However, if you are not quite ready for the challenge of a marathon just yet, it is still not too late to sign up for the Vitality London 10k which is held on bank holiday Monday 28th May. It is a very well-organised event. They have included 2 basic 10 weeks to 10k training schedules for either beginners or improvers - the schedule starts on Monday 19th March, so if you already have a few Kilometres under your belt now is an ideal time to join. You can sign up here.

Another great running event apart from the Watford 10k is The All Nations 5K or 10K which is to be held at Dorney Lake on the 12th May. A flat and fast course around the lake, limited entries only. Give it a go and wear your nation's colours to finish with pride.

Keep up the great work you have managed to do so far this year. Keep on moving.....
You can be(come) Fit For Anything!

All the best,
Roel
